WHTTG (Web Time tracker): About

Where has the time gone?

That’s the perhaps slightly pithy name for a browser extension that shows what you did with your day, at least if you sat in front of a computer for most of the day. I abbreviate it WHTTG.

What does this extension do?

It simple tracks the browser tab(s) that are visible on your screen at any time or the single browser tab that is currently focused, and presents to you a pie chart showing how much relative time you spend on each site.

Where do I get it?

Chrome    Firefox

Why did you create this?

To help manage my Facebook habit and quantify just how much of my life it is sucking up.

Can you explain the options?

There are only a few:

  • The default timescale is to show the accumulated time since midnight today. You can also show yesterday’s results, or the last weeks aggregate results (including today) or the last two weeks.
  • You can choose to have it break down by all the hosts you have tabs to, where mail.google.com would be different from docs.google.com, or you can set it to only look at the top-level name (google.com).
  • Finally, you can choose to have it display all tabs that are visible (that is, open in any window and not minimized) or only the tab that is actually the focus of your mouse/input.

Does plugin steal my browsing data?

Never. Everything stays right on your computer. None of my plugins steal your data, and you can see the code for yourself at https://github.com/djacobow/whttg.
